Historical: The T3 series, which was constructed from scratch, was first introduced in 1979. Engines though, were taken over from the T2 series.
Production began at the Hannover factory in August.
Transporter no 5.000.000 was produced in April 1980.
1981 brings diesel power to the T3. The VW developed liquid-cooled engine has a displacement of 1.588 cm3 and an output of 50 hp.
In 1985 full time 4 wheel drive (known as the "Syncro") and turbo charged engines became an option.
The Syncro was made jointly with Steyr-Daimler-Puch in Graz in Austria.
The 6.000.000 marks was reached in January 1986.
A naturally aspired diesel of 1.715 cm3 and an output of 57 hp was introduced in 1987.
Production ceased in November 1990.
