Rick Chalmers, president of Adventure Motors: "Bigger Than Yours", S.A. has spent most of his life pursuing dreams and ideals in transportation. He often thought vehicles could be modified for a better balance of form and function. From an early age, he often attempted to improve his own transportation. From bicycles, mini-bikes, and motorcycles, to cars and trucks - anything that served to provide transportation was fair game for improvement. Eventually, Rick started applying his skills to more complex projects: building truck beds and trailers, performing engine swaps, and modifications to suspension systems.
While operating an automotive repair business in San Diego, California, for 13 years, Rick would often close the doors at the end of the day and go to work on his own personal projects: building a battery-powered 57' Volkswagen pickup, a vintage 60' Studebaker Lark wagon with modern 4WD drive train and running gear, and an off-road motor home on the back of an immense 4WD International Harvester crew-cab.
Rick studied and obtained his Master Technician's Certification from ASE (Automotive Service Excellence). He also received emissions testing and diagnostic certifications from ASE and the State of California. Rick has spent years looking at mechanical designs, their advantages, forms and failures. He has a profound appreciation for the variety and function of machinery.
In 2005 Rick and his wife, Heidi, moved to Costa Rica to start a new adventure in life. During this time, Rick took notice of a German truck new to him - the Unimog.
Living in Costa Rica, Rick saw that the Unimog was a perfect match for the condition of the roads in the area. This initial idea was the genesis of Adventure Motors: "Bigger Than Yours", S.A.
Currently, Adventure Motors is importing ex-military, 4WD, diesel engine Unimogs. In addition, we are able to fill your order for a specific vehicle of your selection, using either Costa Rican or international sources. By developing an import specialist team of custom brokers, shipping agents, and attorneys, we now have a complete and cohesive operation. We are also working with a variety of new and used parts sources to supply our customers with the parts and information they need to keep their vehicles in excellent condition.
At Adventure Motors, our intention is to be THE source for fun and adventure vehicles in Costa Rica. In creating our company, we have focused on the provision of specialty, off-road vehicles and their maintenance. We supply quality vehicles for the many areas of Costa Rica where daily driving is an adventure!
